Call for Beta Testers: Meraki vMX on Network Edge

We’re excited to announce an upcoming external customer beta for our expanded Cisco Meraki vMX Deployment & Sizing capability!

What is the Meraki vMX Enhancement?

Meraki vMX is a virtual MX appliance that extends the Cisco Meraki SD-WAN fabric into public cloud environments. While the initial vMX implementation supported a single network interface (limiting deployment to a one-arm VPN concentrator mode), our latest vMX architecture now supports dual network interfaces.

This update significantly expands deployment flexibility, enabling two key deployment modes:

  • vMX Classic Mode (Public IP): Directly internet-facing architecture with the WAN interface assigned a public IP address via Equinix Internet Access (EIA), requiring no intermediary devices.
  • Air-Gapped Deployment Mode: Deployed within an isolated network behind a firewall or helper device. The helper device provides DHCP services to the vMX WAN interface (or allows optional static IP configuration for granular control), performs NAT, and opens required ports to establish secure outbound connectivity to the Meraki Orchestrator. The LAN interface remains fully available for downstream scenarios like colocation (COLO) network access and route aggregation.
