What are Likes and how do I give thumbs up?

I've seen the like button in the community. What's a like? How do I give one?

    What are Likes?

    Likes and liking content are how community members recognize content they find helpful, well-formed, insightful, or otherwise generally valuable. When someone likes a post, they are giving both the content and the author a thumbs-up. The net effect is that likes boost the post's value and enhance its author's reputation.

     

    Giving likes is as easy as a single click, but the impact of likes ripples across the community.

    How do I give a like?

    You can give a like to any posts in the community except your own.

    1. Select the thumbs up icon text 
    2. If you want to revoke it, simply click it again.

     

    Why can't I like some content?

    There are a few reasons you might not be able to like a post.

    • You've already given a like to this message (you can only give them once).
    • You wrote the message (you can't like your own messages).
    • Your community manager has turned likes off for a message or a forum.
    • Your community manager has frozen likes for this message. You can still see how many likes the message has received, but you can't like it any more.
