What is Sandbox?

I am seeing a new option called 'Sanbox' while creating MyApps. What is Sandbox?

Sandbox is a dedicated environment for customers to seamlessly integrate and test with Equinix APIs before going LIVE. All ECX & ECP GA APIs are available in sandbox
