Hello, May I know the capabilities and limitations of sandbox environment and how close is it to the production environment?

Hello there,


The sandbox environment is a global mock test environment to simulate Equinix production environment behavior. It is shared with all API customers and is self-service. Customers can use this environment to play around and integrate with Equinix APIs.

The current sandbox environment only uses synthetic data similar to production data (not production data), and it cannot be used to perform end to end testing and data flows with other CSPs/partners etc as it has not been integrated with other customer/CSP/partner sandbox environments, however the response from CSPs have been mocked for happy path. (i.e. positive test flow)

Furthermore, as this is a shared environment the data and configurations keep on evolving.
For example, when integrating with ECX sandbox APIs we recommend users not to hard code specific values pertaining to a service profile such as authorization keys, metros, regions, VLANs etc as other developers may modify the service profile for their respective testing. However, rest assured, the functionality of a service profile will remain intact.
